This project reimagines Granville’s backyard spaces as a network of compact, communal residential modules that increase suburban density while preserving heritage homes and mature trees. Drawing from the Nightingale housing model and MK27 Studio’s Caledonian Somosaguas project, it introduces two complementary building types—the Apartment Module and the Terra-Mod Homes—to meet the diverse needs of students, singles, families, and elders. The design emphasizes sustainable construction through hempcrete, CLT, recycled brick, and recycled terrazzo, integrating reclaimed materials from on-site demolitions to maintain local character. Modules are oriented for optimal sunlight, privacy, and social connection, with shared gardens and pathways fostering community interaction. Overall, the project proposes a sensitive, material-driven approach to higher-density living that strengthens neighborhood identity while advancing environmental resilience.
